Breast cancer cannot be conclusively diagnosed through blood work alone. However, certain blood tests can provide information that may suggest the presence of cancer or help in monitoring the progress of the disease. For instance, tests that measure tumor markers such as CA 15-3 or CA 27-29 may indicate the existence of breast cancer, although they are not entirely specific and are more commonly used to monitor treatment rather than to diagnose the disease. Moreover, other blood tests can aid in evaluating overall health and determining if cancer has metastasized to other parts of the body.

Breast cancer awareness efforts gained momentum in the 1980s. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 in honor of Susan G. Komen, who passed away from breast cancer at the young age of 36. The iconic pink ribbon became an international symbol of breast cancer awareness in 1991 when the foundation distributed pink ribbons to participants in a New York City race for breast cancer survivors. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) began in October 1985 through a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries (now part of AstraZeneca), which was working on the development of multiple anti-breast cancer medications.

Breast cancer lumps usually do not move. In contrast, benign lumps may be more likely to shift within the breast tissue when manipulated, while cancerous lumps are typically fixed in place and do not change position. They often have a hard, irregular shape and are generally painless, although pain can be present in some cases.

The diagnosis of skin cancer involves steps such as examination of the skin, conducting a biopsy if any area appears suspicious, using a dermatoscope for closer examination, and sending tissue samples to a laboratory for pathology to determine the presence and type of skin cancer.

The process of diagnosing breast cancer involves a physical exam, imaging tests such as mammograms, ultrasounds, and MRIs, as well as biopsies to analyze suspicious tissue samples. Additional tests may be needed in some cases.
