Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System (TN_IMS)

Description

The prevalence of thyroid cancer has been rapidly increasing in the last two decades, with a notable number of cases being identified as small, clinically concealed papillary cancers. This rise in thyroid cancer is largely attributed to advancements in diagnostic capabilities, particularly in the detection of small nodules. The ambiguity surrounding fine-needle aspiration (FNA) outcomes and the necessity for frozen-section pathology have created a critical demand for a more precise and minimally invasive tool for diagnosing thyroid nodules. The Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System (TN-IMS) device is an innovative electrical impedance-based system that addresses this requirement.

The Efficiency of Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System in Thyroid Cancer

The Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System (TN-IMS) is an innovative system that utilizes electrical impedance to measure thyroid nodules. This cutting-edge technology effectively meets the demand for accurate thyroid nodule impedance measurements.

The TN-IMS device utilizes electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to measure two electrical impedance features of thyroid nodules – Z1kHz and IPS. These measurements help distinguish between malignant/high-risk nodules requiring excision and low-risk nodules needing follow-up. The system has been fully calibrated using histopathological results from a cohort study of several patients, providing a precise and real-time diagnostic solution for thyroid nodules.

the new Hospitech Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System is transforming thyroid cancer diagnosis by providing real-time, highly accurate detection of high-risk nodules. This system aims to improve patient outcomes by reducing unnecessary surgeries.

Result of Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System in Clinical Study

The system has been evaluated for performance using sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy metrics. The system has demonstrated a sensitivity of 94%, indicating its ability to detect 94% of actual positive cases (detectable nodules in radiology and surgery). The specificity has been 87%, signifying its capability to correctly identify 87% of negative cases (normal thyroid and colloid goiter), and the overall accuracy has been 91%, reflecting its ability to accurately diagnose 91% of the samples. The evaluation has revealed a high level of accuracy in detecting thyroid nodules using the Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System (TN-IMS) device. A total of 48 detectable nodules have been identified in radiology, 3 in surgery, and 3 undetectable nodules have been missed in both radiology and surgery. Furthermore, 36 samples have been determined to have normal thyroid/colloid goiter. In total, the TN-IMS device has analyzed 90 samples.

Technology of Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System

The Thyroid Nodule Impedance Measurement System (TN-IMS) is an advanced device that utilizes precision impedance-based measurement technology to analyze thyroid nodules. Using a two-electrode probe, the device stimulates the tissue and records a current response signal, which is then processed to calculate impedance magnitude and phase diagrams. The extracted parameters, impedance magnitude at 1 kHz (Z1kHz) and impedance phase slope in the frequency range of 100 kHz to 500 kHz (IPS), offer valuable insights into intracellular, extracellular, and membranous abnormalities associated with cancer development.

The TN-IMS is designed for ease of use, with measurements taking only about 3 seconds to complete. The results are displayed in real-time, providing immediate feedback to clinicians. During the process, a disposable G20 IV cannula is inserted into the suspicious target nodule, while a disposable ECG chest electrode with a pre-gelled Ag/AgCl sensor is attached to the submental skin of the patient.

The device’s calibration is based on histopathological examinations, ensuring accurate and reliable results. With its advanced technology and user-friendly design, the TN-IMS device is an invaluable tool for healthcare professionals in diagnosing and managing thyroid nodules.
